Well, here I am back at the US/Mexico border giving the PCT another try! I flew into San Diego and received some overwhelming hospitality from Clint Beachwood, a longtime surf music DJ in San Diego and a huge supporter of my label, Double Crown Records. Had a lovely dinner with him and his wife, and the next day he drove me through gray, cold and rainy skies to Campo, CA, site of the southern PCT terminus.

Clint had given me a big bag of macadamia nuts, a great protein to fuel the first few days of my hike. I have to admit, I wasn’t as well prepared physically for the hike this time, and the miles were tougher. However, it was great to see the Southern California hills once again, with cooler temperatures to make it a bit easier. Dark clouds threatened to unload with rain, but it held off until it was time to set up camp at Mile 13.
